A Note From the Stewardship Commission

October, 2008

Dear Friends in Christ,

The sun is the visual metaphor for this year’s annual giving campaign. It reminds us of optimism and fulfillment, the dawn that follows our darkest night.

While this annual giving campaign focuses on funding the annual budget, this year your Stewardship Committee and Vestry also commend to you God’s call to all of us to grow St. Paul’s.

We invite people to simply reflect on God’s goodness and how that has been manifest in our lives. Our response to this is reflected in our willingness to set aside a portion of our earnings for God. Most of us do that by filling out a pledge form.

Making a yearly pledge is a personal decision. However, we encourage all our members to see their financial giving in Christ as both a benefit and a responsibility of membership. This year, as members fill our their pledge forms, they are asked to give a percentage of their income or to raise their previous pledge by an appropriate percentage.

Between now and early November, members of our St. Paul’s family will speak during our regular services about what it means to live thankfully. Meanwhile we invite you to reflect on`what your gratitude might move you to share from the material things you hold in trust for`God.

Building on the success of last year’s campaign, the Stewardship committee has set the goal for 2009 at $750,000. This goal will provide us support for our new initiatives such as expansion of the youth and young adult ministries, outreach to our neighbors and beyond, and our wonderful new additions to our family, Kris and Steve.

Included in this packet are a pledge form, a return envelope, and a copy of the Rev. Lou Hays’ recent Messenger article on giving for those that may have missed it. We have set aside All Saint’s Sunday on November 2nd as Commitment Sunday, when each family or person`will bring the pledges to the altar. Otherwise, completed forms can be mailed to the church, dropped off in the parish office, or placed in the collection plate at any service. This date is set to allow the Vestry time to set the budget for 2009 well before January 1st.

This fall, we invite your increased participation in the ministries and mission of St. Paul’s. It is A New Morning in Sunday Worship, A New Morning in expanded programs and outreach, and A New Morning in the life of the diocese. It is A New Morning for Giving at St. Paul’s!

Yours faithfully,
The Stewardship Committee and the Vestry
