In the Northern Hemisphere, Easter always arrives in the early spring. Just as we celebrate God’s bringing life out of death in Jesus, we see new life springing forth around us as flowers bloom, and the tips of tree branches turn green - life seemingly coming out of death - new life springing forth around us. A reminder of the ever-renewing motion of God in our world.
For me and my family, this is definitely a time of newness as well. Adjusting to new schools, a new home, a new neighborhood and a new church. For me a new job and new role at St. Paul’s. There is so much to learn about life here in Pittsburgh and at St. Paul’s, and I feel so blessed that you are all our companions on this journey.
I have come to believe that God is always at work in the world around us – whether we are aware of it or not. God’s work is always happening – sometime this is called the Missio Dei or God’s mission. When we are part of God’s mission, it not something that we do, but something that we ‘join in.’ It’s already happening, we just accept to invitation to participate.
I know that God is certainly up to something here at St. Paul’s. I hear it from many of you - God’s healing power working in individual lives, the desire to grow in reaching out in service to others, inviting friends to church, and welcoming new people with open arms into this church home and family. God is working and bringing new life – right now I am listening to how I am being invited to join in what God is already doing in this place.
As I have mentioned before, I am on a kind of “listening campaign” right now at St. Paul’s. I want to hear from you – here about how God is working in your life, how you see God working in the life of this parish, what are the gifts and challenges of life at St. Paul’s. One of the greatest gifts and joys for me of ordained ministry is spending time with individuals and couples. Hearing stories, and reflecting together on what is happening in their lives. Know that I want to sit down with you – no agenda except to know one another better. I want you to teach me about St. Paul’s and Pittsburgh and help me to see how I can join-in in what God is doing in this place.
I am so excited to be joining with you in the life of St. Paul’s right now! Thank you!
