St. Paul’s in the Park  
Summer Wednesday Night Program
June 30, July 7, 14 & 21
Mt. Lebanon Main Park
Pavilion II

900 Cedar Blvd (near the intersection with Rt 19).
The grills will be ready at 6:00.
Bring a picnic item to share with the others.
Meat is an individual item.
We will provide paper products, condiments, covers for the tables, and tools for the grills.
Also there will be containers of Ice Tea and a second cold drink.

A play area is near by for any children. This is after dinner and children can play if they want to. There also an area where picnic chairs can be placed.

ADULT CHRISTIAN FORMATION

Movie Night
Mark your calendars for a ‘Movie Night’. As part of Mabel’s book study on the Supper of the Lamb we will be watching the movie Barbette’s Feast in the Lounge on Saturday night, July 31 following the 6:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist service. This is a classic French film that portrays an insightful understanding of “Eucharist”. Anyone who would be interested in seeing this film is invited to join us. We will discuss the film on Sunday at our regular meeting time of 11:45 a.m. Snacks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

Music Notes
This week St. Paul’s has hosted a very small but lively Jazz camp led by Pittsburgh’s own Saxophone Jazz artist, Lee Robinson. The principle outcome of that camp is a jazz performance that we are preparing to present this coming Tuesday evening, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the church.  We would love to have an audience to inspire these young people’s playing so please join us for this short presentation. Another outcome of the camp is building a jazz repertoire of tunes that we will be using this coming month at the 8:45 a.m. liturgy. This week is Miles Davis modal masterpiece entitle, So What? We hope to see you Tuesday!

Baptism Announcement

A memorial service for Ann Gerstenberger, daughter of parishioner Paula Gerstenberger, will be held this Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15228. A reception in the Lounge will immediately follow the service.
Camp Healing Hearts
Family Hospice and Palliative Care is pleased to offer Camp Healing Hearts, a free day camp for grieving children, ages 6-12, and their parent(s) or guardian(s). The program will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 9 a.m to 3:30 p.m. at our Center for Compassionate Care in the South Hills. For registration or further information, please contact our Bereavement Department at 412-572-8829.
 
 
John Van Tol Memorial Service
A memorial service for parishioner John Van Tol and father of parishioner Ruth Brinegar, will be held on Friday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15228. A reception in the Lounge will immediately follow the service.

 

Betty Culbertson Death Announcement
Former parishioner Betty Culbertson and mother of former parishioner Mary Stark, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 27 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15228. Condolences may be sent to Mary Stark, 66 Pond Court South, Bridgeville, PA 15017. May Betty’s soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

 

  

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Little Shop of Horrors Performance
On Wednesday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. a performance of Little Shop of Horrors will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall/Undercroft. Emily Stack, a student at Shenandoah University, is producing a performance of Little Shop of Horrors for college credit. St. Paul’s own, Taylor Sweeney, plays Skip the Botanical Collector. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are a $5 suggested donation. Bake goods will also be on sale. Please come and support this worthwhile project.

Relieve, Recover, Rebuild!
Haiti still needs our help, and the EYC wants to help out! For a small donation you can purchase a relieve, recover, rebuild Haiti relief bracelet from any youth or Steve Hill. All proceeds benefit Haiti.

 

   

 

Refuge: Young Adult Group
Refuge (young adult fellowship) will not meet on July 28, August 4, 11, 18 and 25 but will resume meeting on Wednesday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Bado’s (307 Beverly Road). If you have any questions please contact the Rev. Kris Opat at 412-531-7153 ext. 35 or kris@stpaulspgh.org.

Canterbury Craft Class
Canterbury Craft Class meets Wednesdays at noon in the Conference Room. We invite all to join us, (even if you aren’t ‘crafty’) for fun and fellowship as we glue, sew, knit and create. Claudia Circle Officers
There will be a meeting for the Claudia Circle Officers on Monday, July 26 at 9:00 a.m. in the Lounge.
Name Tag Sunday
Next Sunday, August 1, is the first Sunday of the month. On this day, please help us become the most welcoming congregation in the South Hills for all generations by wearing your name tags to church.
 
 

 

 

 

   

OUTREACH

Food Pantry Weekend
July 31 and August 1 is our next food collection weekend. This summer our contributions of non-perishable food items are going to SHIM (South Hills Interfaith Ministry), as the South Hills Food Pantry became overstocked. SHIM is located in Bethel Park and serves a wide variety of communities. They are very grateful for our contributions.Shepherd’s Heart
We will be serving dinner at Shepherd’s Heart this Sunday (July 25), using our standard summer picnic menu. We need donations of hot dogs, hamburgers, buns for both, fruit, canned baked beans and cookies. Please bring contributions to St. Paul’s by 3:30 p.m on Sunday. If you would like to help serve, call Pat Stafford at 412.276.7721 or email at pkeagon@gmail.com. Thanks to all who contribute to this ministry to feed the hungry and homeless!
