Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am enthusiastic to be here at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon with you during this season of your parish life. Rev. Noah and your vestry have been gracious to extend the opportunity to travel along with you in your individual and our collective faith journeys. I believe that God has great things in store for us all during this season.
The interim period will allow me to meet with many of you. Some of you I will get to know intimately. Others of you, we will come to know each other by name and shared stories. There will be others who I will only know by face. However we come to know one another, we are all working towards being more obedient followers of Jesus Christ.
One of my personal goals is to continue to grow in my faith and assist you to grow in your own faith life. How might each of us strive to deepen our spiritual roots?
I have the opportunity to work along confirmation teachers and youth ministers as they minister to the youth. I am already impressed by the young people of this congregation and their desire to mature in their faith. May they come to know themselves, one another and most importantly God through Jesus Christ in new ways. Our collective prayer may be that they become more confident in their Christian identity and seek to serve God and God’s creation in new and exciting ways. I ask that you support them as they begin to articulate a new relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
I am encouraged by Rev. Evans inviting the congregation to find new ways to build community and study Scripture together.I have found that some Sunday evenings after attending weekend services that I have questions about what I experienced in worship. Sometimes, I want to delve deeper into the words proclaimed in a sermon or desire to study the hymns that were selected to be sung. Others of you may also be interested in having conversation partners who want to share their own experiences and explore deeper into what may or may not have transpired in worship.
Starting later in October, I will lead conversations about our common life together on Sunday evenings. For one hour, 7-8pm, we will gather to discuss how we might prepare ourselves for the week ahead, using the Saturday evening/Sunday morning worship experience as our guide. I am excited about what may bubble up in our time together and how we can help other to deepen our faith. Prayerfully, we will build each other up and empower one another to approach the week ahead.
Please continue to introduce yourselves to me or send me an email introduction at. I would love to meet you over a cup of coffee or even just a moment to sit down and have a chat. I am excited to be here and look forward to becoming a part of the St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon family.
The Rev. Charles L Fischer III
