A New Years Start: Read the Gospel of Mark with the Good Book Club!
The Reverend Noah H. Evans, Rector
Dear Friends:
“The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” These are the first words of Mark’s Gospel. What better way to begin the new year than with reading the Gospel According to Mark!
Beginning January 1, St. Paul’s will be joining churches across the country in reading a portion the Gospel of Mark each day, January 1-Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday, February 16) as part of the Good Book Club. There is a daily reading schedule that can be found here. You can read along on your own or join one of our Small Groups. If you would like a book that includes the scripture and daily reflections, I suggest The Journey with Mark published by Forward Movement (you can purchase it here) which is available in paperback or Kindle.
Mark’s gospel is the shortest of all the Gospels, and personally my favorite, due to its fast pace and brilliant writing. The schedule of gospel readings for Sundays during 2021 (a.k.a. the lectionary), follow the Gospel of Mark. The entire Gospel of Mark can also be read in one sitting in about an hour, and I want to invite you to join me in doing that at 7:00PM on Wednesday, January 6th at 7:00PM on Zoom – a great way to help kickoff this season of reading the Gospel.
Join me in beginning the new year in hearing, “The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
Peace,
Noah+
