FORUM WITH CANDIDATES FOR VESTRY 2020
On Sunday, February 16, you will have the opportunity to meet our Vestry Candidates at a forum during the 9:45am education hour.
An Invitation to Vestry Service
An important part of the Episcopal Church is the participation of the laity in the governance of the parish. This is accomplished by the Vestry: elected lay members taking council with the Rector. The tradition of having elected laypersons participate in the governance of the church dates to the origins of the church in England and continues today.
The Vestry guides the actions of our parish in pursuit of its mission.Further, the Vestry is the legal representative and agent of the parish, empowered to handle organizational, financial, and policy issues.
Members of St. Paul’s, baptized, 18 years of age or older, supporters of the parish, and conforming to the Episcopal Church are eligible to be members of the Vestry. These members may become candidates through the nomination process and at the Annual Meeting on February 23, 2020, an election is held to select the new Vestrypersons. A term on vestry extends three years and current vestry members may run for reelection to a second three-year term.
The activities of St. Paul’s Vestry members are to attend and participate in monthly meetings and an annual vestry retreat.Vestry members participate in and may lead commissions focused on Worship, Children and Youth, outreach, Christian Formation, Pastoral, Stewardship and Community Life and Fellowship or other committees.
Vestry membership is an interesting and rewarding experience. All eligible members are encouraged to consider this opportunity. If you would like to learn more about Vestry service or would like to be nominated, please contact one of the members of the 2020 Vestry Election Nominating Committee:
