Looking for some good theological discussion over the summer? Looking to grow and wrestle together how we might put feet to our faith? Join Garrett Yates and Summer Intern Jack Brownfield for some theology, coffee and discussion of Verna Dozier’s book The Dream of God. This book has been heralded by many as a “small masterpiece” – it’s both short and accessible (you don’t need a master’s in theology to understand it), while also being challenging and prophetic (you do need to be ready to hear from a soulfully searing voice). Dozier’s simple and provocative question is: what if the church was not primarily about worshiping Jesus, but about following him? We will discuss her book over 3 sessions, from 7-8:30, at Uptown Coffee in Mt. Lebanon:
Week 1, July 11th: “The Dream of God” – what is God’s hope for the world, and what part do we play in it?
Week 2, July 18th: “The Biblical Story” and “The Rejection of the Dream” – how does God’s dream unfold in Scripture, and how has that dream been mishandled throughout the church’s history?
Week 3, July 25th: “The Temptations of the Church” and “The Persistence of the Dream” – how do we follow Jesus in an inclusive, dynamic and life changing way so as to give feet to God’s dream?
