2019 Reverse Advent Calendar is here! Join us in our yearly tradition of the Reverse Advent Calendar in support of the South Hills Food Pantry. Instead of counting day to Christmas by opening a tiny window to take something (like a piece of candy) each day, a Reverse Advent Calendar encourages giving and remembering those in need. Each day of Advent, we invite you to donate the item indicated on the calendar by placing it in a special Reverse Advent Calendar box or bag, and bring it in to St. Paul's when complete. Please follow the calendar suggestions as closely as possible – that way, all the food box recipients get the same food. We will donate all items to the South Hills Food Pantry. The calendar can be downloaded to print here, and we have copies of it around the church as well!
Share the Joy: Take a Tag from Our Angel Tree
November 24 - December 15 in the Undercroft
Return your gift at the Share the Joy celebration at 2pm, Sunday, December 15th.
Help make the holidays brighter for the people served by several of St. Paul's caring ministries! Gifts for families working with our Refugee Support Committee will be featured on the tree, as well as other ministries such as Jeremiah's Place, the Blessed Mustard Seed Babies Home, SHIM and the Trinity Walk-In Ministry. Please take a tag from the tree, and go straight to either Karen or Kara Viggiano to register your tag! Then, you can shop for the gift listed on the tag.
On Sunday December 15th, bring your gift to St. Paul's for a celebratory event. We will enjoy singing and snacks as we come together as a community to collect our Advent outreach donations. Come and celebrate! All are invited. If you can't attend, that's ok - you can arrange to drop off your gift another time!
If you have any questions, please contact Andrea at [email protected], or see Karen Viggiano.
Food Pantry Sunday pushed back a week in December! We normally collect donations for the South Hills Food Pantry on the first Sunday of the month. However, for the holiday collection this year, the Food Pantry has asked us specifically for fresh fruit (apples, oranges and tangerines). In order to prevent potential spoilage, we are asking for the Food Pantry donations to be brought in on Dec. 8th (the second Sunday) instead of Dec. 1st. Thank you as always for your generosity!
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Sweater Drive—The sweater drive is an act of giving that children as young as 4 years old can initiate. A parent can just say, “God wants us to share with others. You can look through your sweaters and jackets to find ones that are too small for you. We can put them in a box at St. Paul’s so that other children will be able to wear them to keep warm.” The Mr. Rogers’ Sweater drive accepts new and gently used children, youth and adult sweaters. Boxes are located in Parish Hall and near the elevator. Last date for drop off: December 10th. If you have any questions, contact Jane Offutt at [email protected]
It's Meatloaf Time! The Severe Weather Emergency Shelter for the homeless in downtown Pittsburgh is now open and we have confirmed dates to provide 10 meat loaf dinner meals at the shelter. Our dates in December are: 6th (Fri.), 19th (Thurs.), and 28th (Sat.). Here is how you can help:
Walk-In Ministry Donations: The Walk-In Ministry that provides food and toiletry items for our downtown neighbors is collecting toboggan-style hats for all genders. Please consider donating a hat in the labeled box located in the undercroft. For any questions please contact Ann Coffaro at 412-498-4059.
Karaoke for Colin – Save the evening of January 25th for Karaoke fundraising: a dedicated evening to raise funds to support Colin, a Ugandan med student. It promises to be an evening of fun for “baby boomers,” “rockers,” and Disney fans. More details will be forthcoming but, in the meantime, set aside an item or items that would be suitable for kids’, adults’, and/or pets’ prize baskets. We will be assembling the baskets at the church. If you have questions, you can ask Jane Offutt ([email protected]) or Ann McStay ([email protected]).
