On Sunday December 4 at the 10:45 am liturgy you will hear our Chancel Choir and soloists with orchestra perform the cantata, Meine Seel erhebt den Herren (My soul magnifies the Lord) BWV 10 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Based on the Magnificat, the cantata is bubbling over with joyous themes, fanfare figurations and lovely arias. As in all the works of Bach, the text, the Hymn of Mary, is made even greater through the heavenly compositional craft of J.S. Bach.
Our next Friends of Music concert is Sunday, December 11th at 4:00 pm as Ellen Fast and Bryan Sable present another fabulous duo piano recital. Bryan and Ellen have entertained audiences all over the city of Pittsburgh with their lightning fast fingers across the piano keys. Please come and enjoy an hour of delightful duets from these master pianists. On Tuesday December 13 in the church, our music ministry sponsors The Pittsburgh Yinzer Singers directed by Sam Viggiano as they perform an outreach concert from the “The Canned Food Concert Series”, a family-fun canned food drive. While raising awareness of hunger and joining with local human services enterprises, the Yinzer Singers provide enjoyable sing-a-long entertainment from Christmas classics to popular a cappella favorites!
Please bring your family to this fun-filled event that feeds the hungry.
The music of Christmas Eve will again be wonderful. The 2:00 pm liturgy will abound with carols and organ music played by Mt. Lebanon High School choral director, Nathan LaPlaca. Directed by our Music Assistant, Bryan Sable, The Praise band and Canterbury Choir will once again musically highlight the 4:00 pm pageant. The later liturgies at 7:15 and 10:30 pm will feature music for chamber orchestra, organ, Chancel Choir and soloists in the music of J.S.Bach, G. F. Handel and other masterworks. The 7:15 liturgy will also feature music for handbells.
