This Sunday is the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost and even though it is just weeks away, our music already looks so much like Advent; e.g. the ideas and hymns “Keep watch”, “Sleepers wake!” It begins with the Collect, “(be ready) so that, when he comes again…” But can never sleep when we sing hymns like, “Awake my soul” and “Sleepers wake.” If fact we cannot sleep when music that we sing and music that listen to supplies the life-force of resurrection energy.
This coming Sunday afternoon is next Friends of Music Concert, featuring our very own Christin Cooper, Sunday, November 12 2017 at 4:00pm
Christin is delighted to present a program of art song and works for solo piano. On the piano, her program will feature Haydn’s Andante and Variations in F minor, selections from Ravel’s Miroirs, and the Alcotts movement from Charles Ives’ “Concord” piano sonata. Together with Mia Bonnewell and Doug Starr, she will also feature art songs by Charles Ives, Libby Larsen, and Lili Boulanger. All youth, children and parents who work Christin in Canterbury Choir, Youth Praise Band and Sunday School will enjoy this chance to see Christin’s artistry. A $10 asking will be at the door.
