Our 4:30pm Christmas Eve Pageant feels like it was just a few days ago. It was wonderful—more than 80 kids and teens participating, and 571 people attended the service. I’ve never seen the church so packed.
That said, the sheer volume of people at that service warrants a second look at how we are going to make the pageant service work going forward. A large group, made of of Sunday School Teachers, parents, ushers and Worship and Children and Youth Commission members and both of us met several weeks ago to discuss how well last year went, and we threw around many, MANY ideas as to how we can change that service to make it even better.
The entire Children and Youth Commission has now weighed in, as have the entire Worship Commission. This coming year, we have all come to the conclusion that the best thing to do is to move the pageant to Sunday, Advent 4 (December 22nd) in the late afternoon, complete with a full worship service, and with an all parish dinner directly following. We will also be re-imagining the 4:30pm Christmas Eve service—all ideas are welcome. Please let either of us or Worship Commission Chair and Verger, Rich Creehan know.
We want to say thank you to everyone who attended the pageant meeting, and all members of the Children and Youth Commission and all members of the Worship Commission meeting for giving us their thoughts...and also, to all the kids, families, volunteers, musicians, and congregation members who have made the pageant what it is, and what it will continue to be going forward. The pageant means a lot to everyone—I’m so glad to be taking steps to make sure that feeling can continue. As always, let us know if you have questions or further comments.
