Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has appointed Erin Morey, parishioner and new Director of Communications for St. Paul’s, to serve as the delegate of the Episcopal Church to the Anglican Communion delegation to the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) in New York City, to be held March 13-24, 2017.
This will be Erin’s third year in a row attending this important United Nations gathering where she has the opportunity to advocate for women’s rights and empowerment in this country and around the world. In the two previous years, Erin served as one of 17 women from the Episcopal Church. This year, Erin will be the sole representative of the Episcopal Church to the delegation from the Anglican Communion, whose participation in this annual event predates the Episcopal Church’s participation. The two delegations often work in conjunction with one another, such as worshiping together and going to meetings with ambassadors from permanent missions to the United Nations. Her work will remain largely the same, but her delegation will represent the 85 million members of the Worldwide Anglican Communion. The 2017 UNCSW Priority Theme is “Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work.” You can find more information about the gathering here. Please join us in congratulating Erin on this remarkable achievement, and in thanking her for her service to the Church and the women of the world.
