“The winter’s past, the snow is o’er, we feel the chilling winds no more!”
Easter has come yet never goes. Salvation is created and never passes away. I want to thank all our parish musicians who in the past month have presented Bach Cantata 107, Sunday liturgies and music for Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter. These musicians include Canterbury Choir, 8:45 am ensemble, Praise Band, Handbell Ensemble, Chancel Choir, soloists and instrumentalists! All this was made possible with the assistance Christin Cooper, our Music Assistant at St. Paul’s
As you may know, April is Jazz Appreciation Month, a month to honor Jazz, “America’s Classical Music.” Created by John Edward Hasse, PhD, curator of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, this month-long celebration “pays tribute to jazz as both a living and as an historic music.” Here at St. Paul’s we odten break into Jazz, Saxophonist and composer, Lee Robinson who with his small ensemble named, “Iska” plays here, on college campuses and in the community. Lee holds a summer jazz camp at St. Paul’s so stay tuned for registration information. We also have parishioner Michael Plaskett, a jazz scholar and Jazz radio host of “Rhythms Sweet and Hot” aired on WESA, 90.5 FM every Saturday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Periodically, I have the honor of being his pianist in a small ensemble that takes these hot tunes on the road. Recently the Pittsburgh community has restored Jazz programming to the radio airwaves. The Pittsburgh Jazz Channel (Pittsburghjazz.net) has initiated a full time all jazz station at WZUM AM 1550. Currently heard in the South Hills, WYZR-FM 88.1 is on the air with major power increase coming to extend jazz programming into the region. So this month and every month, tune in and turn on to Jazz!

U2charist and End-of-Year Announcements for Youth Music Ensembles
On Sunday, June 10th we will be holding a U2charist at St. Paul’s! All of the hymns and some service music for this Eucharist will come from U2’s extensive musical catalog. Any St. Paul’s musicians who’d like to help lead the congregation in some classic U2 jams should contact Christin Cooper at [email protected].
Additionally, as we look forward to springtime and come to the end of our church program year, I’d like to take a moment to invite all children and youth to consider checking out one of our youth music ensembles! This is a great opportunity to try something new without the pressure of a full-year commitment. All St. Paul’s children in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade are invited to give Canterbury Choir a try as we finish out the church year. We will sing, play games, and have fun with friends on Sundays from 10:30-11:15 am in the Choir Room.Middle and High School Youth are also invited to check out Youth Praise Band on Tuesday evenings from 6-6:45 pm in the Church. We are preparing to play for the 8:45 service on Sunday, April 15th and our end-of-year Pentecost Spectacular on Sunday, May 20th. Contact Christin Cooper at [email protected] with questions or for more info!
