On the last Sunday of January, St. Paul’s will welcome back to our grand piano, James Iman and his friend Christin Cooper. James is on the music faculty of Chatham University and is a frequent performer on their Friday Afternoon Musicale program. His passion is to perform the works of 20th century composers.
The selections he chose for the St. Paul’s concert feature a work by Anne Boyd, an Australian composer known for blending Christian Love with Buddhist silence; three dance souvenirs by Samuel Barber (well known to Episcopalians for his Agnus Dei); a selection by American composer Donald Martino, who won a Pulitzer Prize in composition, called Fantasie II; and concludes with a Fantasia after Bach composed in 1909 by Italian composer Ferruccio Busoni. Those in the audience who appreciated hearing Bach Preludes before church service will have fun with this final work. Our former Church Musician, Christin Cooper, will join James Iman with two more hands for the Barber work.
Friends of Music aspires to bring local musicians to perform in our beautiful space and this concert features two exciting Pittsburgh artists. Come and enjoy a unique musical experience.
