Cotillion FAQs

What Is Cotillion?

Cotillion is more than “punch and snacks”– students learn dances like the waltz, foxtrot, or tango. They also learn important life skills such as how to introduce themselves, the importance of dress and appearance, and basic table manners. Cotillion helps students gain confidence in themselves. It is a social education program that uses dance as a tool to teach social and character skills that are not normally covered in school. In classes, students learn to be comfortable with themselves and others, to communicate better, and to develop respect and self-confidence.

In Fall 2024, we will enroll 130 sixth graders; class will be Saturday evenings once a month from 7:30 to 9PM.

Registration

Current parishioners at St. Paul’s will have first priority in terms of enrollment. Enrollment will then be opened to Mt. Lebanon students, and then to students in other districts.

Cell Phone Policy

When students arrive at Cotillion, they will be asked to leave their cell phones on a shelf so that they can focus their attention on the instructors. They will pick up their phones at the end of the session. If you must reach your child during class, please call 412-531-7153 x98.

Pronoun Usage

As we continue to grow in our understanding and inclusion of all people, we invite our participants to write their proper pronouns on their name tags (he/him, she/her, they/them, other). Here is a website that talks about pronoun use and why it is important.

What is the Dress Code?

For each session, students should wear clothing suitable for church, or for a formal party. Flip-flops, converse sneakers, and tennis shoes may not be worn. Jeans and t-shirts also are not appropriate. Jackets and ties or skirts/dresses are encouraged.
