The Lenten Devotional & Discussion Groups The Lenten Devotional is here! Each day of Lent a member of St. Paul's offers a brief reflection on the scripture that corresponds with the Daily Office readings.
Grab a copy of the devotional in the St. Paul's Parking Lot on Shrove Tuesday (February 16, 4-6PM) and Ash Wednesday (February 17, 7:30-8:30AM, 9:30-10:30AM and 5-6PM). Lent for Children's Ministry We have lots of options for families with children pre-K through 5th grade for this year's Lenten season! You can pick up ALL of these materials below (and much more for adults!) to help your family observe Lent on Shrove Tuesday, which is Tuesday, February 16th from 4pm to 6pm (pick up your pancakes then, too!) and Wednesday, February 17, 7:30-8:30AM, 9:30-10:30AM and 5-6PM in the St. Paul's parking lot.
1. Godly Play at Home
Storytelling is a wonderful way to help children learn the story of God's People. Here, you will find the seven stories for The Faces of Easter, one for each Sunday in Lent. There are also wondering questions for you to use, as well as the black and white coloring cards for you and your children to prepare. You can download this here. The questions are here.
2. Homemade Pretzels Without Yeast
This is a simple recipe for making pretzels without yeast. The twisted shape of pretzels is meant to resemble two arms, crossed in prayer. Making Lent pretzels is a way to remember that Lent is a season of prayer. Baking Lent pretzels is also an opportunity to share the meaning behind a pretzel's twist with children. You can download the recipe here.
3. Praying in Color for Lent
Here are several coloring sheets to mark the days of Lent-- there are 40 of them! Color or decorate one piece a day during the season of Lent to help remember that we are waiting for Easter. Coloring Sheet 1, Coloring Sheet 2
4. Creating a Lenten Prayer Space at Home
Wondering how to create a spot in your home that will give your family a special place to gather during Lent? This article has some great ideas on how to do just that!
5. Peace Banners
Help us create a beautiful banner for St. Paul's by decorating a Peace Banner. When your fabric piece is finished, you can bring it back to the church to be turned into a banner. If you would like to decorate a peace banner, and didn't get to pick one up with the Lent Children's Ministry packet, email Kristen at [email protected].
6. Easter Rocks! Rolling the Stones Away!
Everyone likes painting rocks but these are special! They are "Easter Rocks!" Rocks. Help us "Roll the stones away" for Easter by painting a rock. We will create a beautiful rock garden on the church lawn, in a location still to be decided. Hold onto your rocks after they are painted-- more information will be coming closer to Easter Sunday! If you would like to paint a rock, and didn't get to pick one up with the Lent Children's Ministry packet, email Kristen at [email protected].
Lent for Youth Ministry
For Middle Schoolers: Many Christians take on a discipline during Lent, whether that's giving something up or taking something on, to help them notice God more. This year we invite you to the challenge of Lent! The point isn't to punish yourself or to get a "do-over" on the New Year, but to all the discipline to help you notice God each day as we draw toward the cross and tomb. To help you with that, we've provided a Lenten Calendar to help you track your discipline and a handout on Lent to help you understand the season.

For high schoolers: This Lent, Senior EYC will be following "Sticky Faith Every Day," a program that invites us to reimagine and re-engage spiritual practices as a way to notice God more every day. High schoolers are not only invited to come together on Wednesday evenings during EYC to talk about this theme, but to use the "Sticky Faith Lent" Daily guides throughout Lent to help notice God in a random and chaotic world.
Learning to Pray Class & Small Groups start after Easter Based on this very basic human desire to know God, we have developed a 9 week course that provides a framework that will guide each of us into a deeper more meaningful relationship with God. The Learning to Pray course will begin after Easter and conclude before summer. It is built around small groups of 5-6 people per group, each with its own trained leader to guide you. The initial two meetings will be all of us together then we will break up for 6 weeks of experiential learning, followed by a closing meeting with all of us together again. The small groups will meet for 1 hour per week at a time agreed to by the group. It is hoped that the integrity and strength of each group will grow with your attendance at each meeting but this is not a requirement. We will meet via Zoom so we can continue to practice safe distancing while we build new interpersonal relationships. If you have questions, please email Mark Lamendola at [email protected] or the Rev. Ted Babcock at [email protected]. You can signup that you are interested here.
