Pesto Sauce by Dana Bloomburg

Corinthians 10:31, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Our creator, God, made food. Food is made to nourish our bodies and teaches us to be grateful for the bounty we have been given. As the third generation of immigrants, food has always been the focus of any of my family gatherings, whether they be small or large. As a mother, it is important to me to make sure that my children are nourished with God’s food and to make sure that their minds are nourished with the teachings of God’s love. Incorporating generations together for a meal is one of the ways I see God spreading his love towards myself and my family.

Through God’s help, we use his teachings to guide us. God is asking us to remember him not only in the food and drink that we nourish our bodies with, but in all that we do to share God’s love outside of mealtime. Deuteronomy 8:10, “When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”
The recipe that I am sharing today is my father’s pesto sauce. This is a great way to use the basil from your garden. God has not only given us food, but the rain and the sun to nourish the basil plant. It is the ultimate way to share God’s love by sharing food that was made from the ingredients that God helped us grow.

Pesto Sauce
Ingredients
3 garlic cloves
2 cups of fresh basil
1 tablespoon of pine nuts
1 dash each of salt and pepper
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1. In a food processor, add the garlic and mince.
2. Add basil, pine nuts, salt, and pepper. While the food processor is running on puree, slowly drizzle the olive oil through the feed tube until all oof the ingredients are pureed.
3. Stop the food processor and scrap down the sides with a rubber spatula to ensure that it is all mixed together.
4. Add Parmesan cheese and puree the mixture again. If the pesto is too thick, you can add a tablespoon of water.
5. Cover and refrigerate up to 3 days until you are ready to use it.
